About Us
Our Background and Heritage
by Senior Pastor, Taylor Keller
Plainfield Christ Fellowship holds to “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3). That faith was delivered to the Church by “eyewitnesses and ministers of the word” (Luke 1:2), and we believe it has been preserved for us today in the 66 books of Christian Scripture: the Holy Bible. In interpreting the Bible, we believe the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed to be faithful and true expressions of our faith, guarding against error, especially as it relates to the person and divinity of Jesus Christ.
As the Church has moved through time, many limbs, branches, and twigs have grown on the “family tree” of Christianity. If you allow the metaphor, you can locate us on the Wesleyan branch of the tree. John Wesley was an English clergyman who was used by God to bring awakening to England and America and who founded the Methodist movement in the 1700s. Therefore, we share common spiritual DNA with groups such as the Global Methodists, Free Methodists, Wesleyans, Nazarenes, and others within what is often called the “Wesleyan-Holiness” movement.
In the more recent past, our heritage runs through the ministry of Loran Helm, a Methodist Episcopal minister from East Central Indiana who was called as an apostle in the 1940s. God used Rev. Helm to establish and influence dozens of churches around the United States until his death in 2006. Rev. Helm was a preacher of holiness, walked in the gifts of the Spirit, and emphasized doing only God’s will in daily life and, certainly, in church life. Our founding pastor, Jerry Keller—my dad—was discipled by Rev. Helm. You can read his tribute to Rev. Helm here.
My dad founded our congregation in 2005. At that time, its name was Tabernacle Fellowship, emphasizing moving with God in obedience. In 2013, the name was changed to Plainfield Christ Fellowship. My parents led the church faithfully for nearly 20 years and, in 2025, passed the baton to me and Kindra when I was installed as Senior Pastor.
Core Beliefs
We believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
He is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (Exodus 3:6).
His Name is I AM WHO I AM (Exodus 3:14).
He is “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation” (Exodus 34:6–7)
He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3).
We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He is the Word (John 1:1).
He is the True Light (John 1:9).
He is the unique Son of the Father (John 1:14).
He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).
He is the Messiah (John 1:41).
He is the King of Israel (John 1:49).
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross” (Colossians 1:15-20).
He is the true God (1 John 5:20).
We believe that Jesus was a historical man who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived, died, rose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven.
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him . . . They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him on the third day…” (Acts 10:38-40).
We believe Jesus will return from Heaven to judge the living and dead.
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
“The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead” (Acts 17:30-31).
We believe in the Holy Spirit.
He is our “Helper” and the “Spirit of Truth.” (John 14:16-17)
He is the “promise of the the Father” for the Church. (Acts 1:4)
He empowers the Church with gifts as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:11)
We believe in the Holy Trinity.
We believe that God is one in three distinct persons.
The Father is God. The Son is God. The Holy Spirit is God.
Yet, the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Father, the Spirit is not the Son, and so forth.
This is the paradox of unity and distinguishability in the Christian teaching of the triune God.
We believe that God offers forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life through Jesus and His death on the cross.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses…” (Ephesians 1:7).
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
We affirm that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is infallible, inerrant, and our authoritative rule for faith and doctrine.
“…no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:20-21)
